How to Study Light Chapter!

How to Study Light Chapter

Light :

Light is one of the beautiful but lengthiest chapter of physics in 10th CBSE syllabus. Students often get confused how to study this chapter. In this blog I'm going to give you some ideas to study this chapter more effectively.

Lets brighten our future with light...

The light chapter can be divided into following parts

1. Theory

2. Ray diagrams

3. Formulae based questions.

If you could separate things in these categories then  you can start studying each part one by one

Theory :

Laws- laws of reflection,

             -laws of refraction.

# Definitions-

  1. center of curvature
  2. pole
  3. principle axis
  4. principle focus
  5. focal length
  6. aperture
  7. refraction
  8. refractive index ( relative)
  9. absolute refractive index
  10. power of lens.
  11. one diopter.
Table of image formation -for spherical mirrors

                                                     -for lenses.

# Characteristics of image formed by plane mirror.

Uses of  both types of lenses and mirrors.

# Difference between real image and virtual image

Ray diagrams :

To draw ray diagram correctly one should remember table of image formation by both mirrors and both lenses. IMP diagrams are as follows

  1. Ray diagrams of concave and convex mirrors (8)
  2. Ray diagram of refraction of light by glass slab.(8)
  3. Ray diagrams of concave and convex lenses.(1)
Formulae based questions :
There are not many types of formulae in the given chapter, if you will understand the difference between the positive and negative sign then you can get complete marks in the exam.
  1. formulae for mirror ( mirror's formula, magnification)
  2. formula for lens ( lenses formula, magnification)
  3. power of the lens.
  4. refractive index.
That's it.  go line by line from given list and study of light chapter is ALMOST completed. Why almost! Because to score very good marks you might need to read chapter after completing this list so that no single point should miss and also you need to work on your basic knowledge.
